About Honeybee Rescue Company

Meet the Duo Behind Honeybee Rescue Company

Honeybee Rescue Company is the Kelius family: Ty, Alyssa, Alexis, and Ty Jr. It started in 2016 when Ty and his mom Linda got a couple of beehives as a hobby. Nothing planned. But the hives kept multiplying, the honey production picked up, and neighbors started calling when bees showed up where they weren't welcome.

By 2017 the whole family was involved, doing swarm captures and full cut-outs from homes and businesses. A backyard hobby turned into the family business.

We're beekeepers first. When we pull a colony out of your wall, we're not disposing of it. We're bringing it home. We know how to keep colonies alive after extraction, how to re-queen when we need to, and how to get them healthy again. The bees aren't waste. They're why we show up.

Honestly, beekeeping has become a kind of therapy for our family. We're always learning something new about how colonies work, and we like talking about it. You can watch us do live cut-outs and swarm captures on Facebook (@Honeybee Rescue Company).

As Ty and Alyssa put it: "We lead with humane, sustainable bee conservation and removal, and we want to teach people why bees matter."

What Your Neighbors Are Saying

Bees vs Yellowjackets vs Hornets:

Know the difference

We get many calls for bee removal. But often, they don't actually have bees. They have yellowjackets, or paper wasps, or sometimes hornets. It's an easy mistake — they're all small, they all fly, and they all sting. But they're actually very different animals, and knowing which one you've got changes how the removal works.

Honeybees

Honeybees are fuzzy, golden-brown, and relatively calm. They build wax comb, produce honey, and only sting as a last resort (it kills them). If you see bees going in and out of a gap in your siding or a hole in a tree, moving slowly and carrying pollen on their legs, you're almost certainly looking at honeybees. These are the ones we relocate alive.

Bee

Yellowjackets

Yellowjackets are smooth, shiny, and bright yellow with black stripes. They're smaller than honeybees and a lot more aggressive. They build papery nests in the ground, inside wall voids, or under eaves. They don't make honey. They don't pollinate much. And unlike honeybees, they can sting you repeatedly without dying. If you're getting chased away from a hole in the ground or seeing wasps crawling in and out of a gap near your roofline, it's probably yellowjackets.

Bee

Hornets

Hornets (like the bald-faced hornet, which is common around Montgomery and Berks County) are larger, black and white, and build big enclosed paper nests in trees or on the sides of buildings. They're territorial and will defend the nest aggressively if you get too close.

Bee

The good news: We can help you with all of them!

Here's the thing that matters for you: it doesn't change what to do. Call us either way. If it's honeybees, we remove and relocate them. If it's yellowjackets, hornets, or wasps, we treat and remove the nest.

You don't need to figure out which species is living in your wall before you pick up the phone, that's our job. Send us a photo and we'll tell you exactly what you're dealing with and how we'll handle it.

Pest Removal Services around Gilbertsville, PA

Not every stinging insect gets rescued. Yellowjackets and hornets are aggressive, they barely pollinate, and they're not endangered. When you've got a nest in your eaves or near a door, the only goal is getting rid of it before someone gets stung.

We handle these jobs across Montgomery County, Berks County, and the surrounding area. We identify the species, locate the nest, and remove or treat it so the problem is gone for good. Not sure what you're looking at? A lot of people confuse yellowjackets with honeybees. Text us a photo and we'll tell you what it is and what to do.

Our 7-step removal process

1. Identification

We figure out what you've got. Honeybees, bumblebees, carpenter bees, yellowjackets, and wasps all require different approaches, so getting this right saves time and headaches.

2. Inspection

Using infrared cameras, we locate the colony inside the structure and figure out its size and the best access point.

3. Equipment

Full protective gear goes on. We prep the bee vacuum, smoker, hive boxes, and anything else the job requires.

6. Removal

Bees are vacuumed gently into a collection container. Comb, brood, honey stores, and the queen are all extracted by hand.

5. Clean-up

We remove every bit of comb, propolis, and residue from the cavity. Skip this step and you'll have moths, beetles, mice, or another swarm within months.

6. Repair

The opening is patched and sealed. We treat the area so the remaining scent doesn't draw future colonies back to the same spot.

7. Relocation

The colony goes to one of our apiaries. They get a hive box and time to rebuild. Most are back to normal within a few weeks.
